Borneo
Well we have arrived in Borneo! We flew out of KL yesterday afternoon and we are now happily settled into Kota Kinabalu :) It is a lot slower paced and easier to cross the road here than in KL! Last night it rained and rained for hours, really heavily. We had some dinner and by the time we came out, it was really heavy so we stopped at a bar and played a game of pool. The wind was blowing the rain into the bar and all across the pool table but it was actually quite nice and refreshing as it was still pretty hot! The hostel is nice, we have a huge double room for the same price as two dorm beds and there is a tv room next door with a giant telly. It doesn't have any DVDs though. Most hostels in Malaysia have huge collections of DVDs that you can buy for less than a pound on pretty much every street.
This morning we were crossing a road and I managed to stub my toe on something and snap my flip flop in the process. I had to take them off and walk barefoot until we found a supermarket. All the security guards looked at me very strangely but when they realised I was holding broken shoes they showed me where to find new ones! We have found that people in Malaysia are very helpful and everyone is fascinated by my lip ring as well and wants to talk to us. Here in KK, people have been slowing down in their cars just to wave and say hello to us! Even a policeman did it this morning :) It makes us feel very exotic!
We are having a very good time and all is well apart from one thing - the insect bites. Ben seems to be doing OK but I think I am having some kind of allergic reaction because they swell up to about 2 inches diameter and itch for a long time. I look very lovely with my designer red blotches :P Ben is very good at telling me to stop scratching them but I am not very good at it.
In Malaysia they speak very good English but some of the spellings are very entertaining. Everything is spelt exactly how you pronounce it in a Malaysian accent. Ice Cream is spelt AIS KRIM, Bicycle is spelt BASIKAL, Automobile is OTOMOBIL, Bus = BAS, Taxi = TEKSI etc etc. We catch an EKSPRES BAS from town to town. It is a very fun game spotting the good ones.
We are going to Kinabalu National Park tomorrow where we will be staying for a few days to wander around and bathe in the poring hot springs!
Let us know some news from home!
