Fremantle

We have been having lots of fun in Fremantle while we wait for our train over east. This will be our fourth night here in Pirates (which is a very good hostel by the way). After fighting our way here on Sunday through bloody rail replacement services, we left our stuff in the dorm and had a look around the markets. They were ok but mainly full of souvenirs which no one has any use for especially not us. In the evening we went to a brewery called Little Creatures where they brew their own beer and sell it to you straight from the vats. It was a really cool place with a pretty good mix of people since it is mentioned in the guide books as being a nice place to go. We ate there as well and while you wait for a table, they give you a leopard print cowboy hat with a name on it and when you table is ready they can find you pretty quickly in the crowd!

The next day we got the ferry over to Rottnest Island. It has a lovely laidback holiday atmosphere - it felt a lot like the Scilly Isles at times especially as there are so few cars and a lot of silence in the right places. We snorkelled in the bays and saw lots of fish. I couldn't tell you what they were though cos even though we looked on a chart, we couldn't recognise them. While we were sitting having a coffee near the jetty, a family of peacocks including 4 babies came up and walked around under our table. I's never seen baby peacock before. In the evening we went down to the Orient Hotel with a group of people from the hostel in order to enter the pool comp. All the guys from our group who entered ended up playing some locals and they all lost except Ben who got to the second round only to be beaten by another local. Ahh well.

Yesterday we went to the Shipwreck Gallery which was ace. Lots of stories of Mutiny and Disease. It was mostly about Dutch East India Company ships that had wrecked on the West Coast due to turning up to Jakarta too late. In the evening we had half price Nachos at a mexican place. I can't stop eacting Nachos, they are just too good. Then we went to a little independent cinema just round the corner and watched Broken Flowers with Bill Murray.

Today I watched Amelie for the first time (I know, I know) :)

We are staying an extra night tonight rather than go into Perth today as there is a big BBQ tonight for this guy called Russ who is leaving to work in another hostel (admittedly only round the corner) after being here for 8 months. MMmm BBQ.
