Leaving Sydney :(
Well, Jess, you are right... Sydney is definately one of my Best. Cities. Ever.
We are having such a good time and we have been so ridiculously busy that we don't want to leave! We had to check out of our cosy caravan this morning which is very sad but on the other hand this is such a great hostel that we can still use all the facilities for freeeeeeeeee until our bus at 9pm.
The day after we arrived it was Australia Day!! Woohoo! We were so proud to be Australian that day. We walked up to Mrs Macquaries Point where we sat on the grass with lots of happy and proud Australians and watched the parade of boats. We saw a couple of Tall Ships which were beautiful and also a helicopter dangling a giant Aussie flag from it. The army were there and they did a 21 gun salute. After we had had enough being Australian for a while, we went to the Police and Justice Museum which was free for the day (I love Australia Day). There was an excellent exhibition of mugshots from the first half of the twentieth century in which most of the police photographers had just let the subjects do whatever they wanted and the photos weren't like mugshots at all.
We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around the vintage car show in town, admiring the beauty and taking arty shots of their logos and grills. Mmmm great fun!
The day after Australia day, we managed to spend the entire day in the Australian Museum. There were two temporary exhibits - BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year and How to Make a Monster - the art of animatronics. They were both awesome and those along with learning about indigenous Australian species ensured that we were there until we got turfed out at closing time.
On the 28th (Happy Birthday Rob!) we went shopping! We were both in desperate need of a few new things as my white vests are no longer white and Ben has been wearing his trousers for two months solid. Anyway I got a pretty dress so I am happy and Ben got some shorts which aren't too hot. Everyone's a winner. In the evening, we packed a picnic and went to the Domain to watch Madame Butterfly which was being put on for free in the Open Air. It was absolutely packed but we could see and the performance was great.
Yesterday we got the ferry over to Manly to spend some time on a nice beach. It was really good, felt like we were properly on holiday! In the evening we went to the cinema to watch Brokeback Mountain. It was really really good and I recommend you go see it!
Today we plan to walk over the Harbour Bridge and generally absorb as much Sydney as we can before leaving on an overnight bus to Byron Bay.
